The Hero of Maida is a five-floor gastro pub and private dining venue in Maida Vale, London, operated by the Public House Group. The group runs a small portfolio of well-regarded venues, including The Hart in Blandford Street and The Pelican in Notting Hill, and is known for its commitment to high-quality interiors.
The Hero of Maida required a complete mechanical and electrical refurbishment ahead of reopening. The project spanned the full height of the building, from the commercial kitchen in the basement to a private loft dining room on the third floor. In between is a ground-floor pub, a first-floor grill restaurant, and a second-floor private hire space. Each floor serves a distinct function, with its own requirements for lighting control, heating, and ventilation.
We delivered a full M&E package, covering electrical installation, heating & plumbing, and air conditioning across all five floors.
Our commercial electricians began with a detailed survey of the building to understand the existing infrastructure and the specific demands of each floor.
The electrical installation was built around a Rako scene-setting control system, which allows staff to switch between four pre-programmed lighting settings throughout the venue.
This gives the pub, restaurant, and private dining floors the flexibility to adjust the atmosphere for daytime service, evening dining, or private events, without manual intervention at individual fittings.
Decorative lighting and socket installations were completed across all floors to match the interior design.
With five floors and a range of hospitality spaces, our Gas Safe-registered plumbers and air conditioning contractors had to carefully coordinate installations around the wider fit-out.
Gas pipework was run via vertical risers to serve the commercial kitchen, with additional connections for the gas fireplaces and bespoke gas lanterns throughout the venue.
Gas lanterns are a rare feature in modern hospitality, and Public House Group are one of a small number of operators still using them; their installation required careful specification to ensure safe and compliant integration alongside the broader gas works.
Plumbing installations covered the toilet facilities across all floors, and a ducted air conditioning unit was installed on the third floor to serve the loft dining space.
The Hero of Maida reopened on schedule, with all of the building’s systems across all five floors installed and ready to go.
